These three pictures show three different and distinct Goodyera species. Concentrating on the inside of the flower and showing the columns [anther caps and pollinia]. Far left Goodyera tesselata. Middle, Goodyera repens. Right, Goodyera pubescens. Notice difference in the lips of each species, the G. repens has a longer more narrow lip than either G. tesselata or G. pubescens. Also notice the pinkish hue of the G. tesselata's flowers that is absent from both G. repens and G. pubescens. This is something that I have observed in G. tesselata in Pennsylvania and New Hampshire in both their flowers and their inflorescence [buds].

Goodyera pubescens and Malaxis unifolia growing together. Botanist here in Pennsylvania are noticing a connection [ as yet unknown, possible a fungus that both plants depend upon present in the soil ] between the two species often finding both growing together.
