6 hours on the road to see this one special orchid, and in the end only one tiny plant was found but it was worth it, every mile. I love everything about the world of wild orchids and the wild country they are in, it is not for everyone, but I wouldn't have it any other way. The steady rain only seem to add to the excitment and the boggy habitat only added to the hunt for this elusive plant, and the mosquitoes and deer flies guard the secrets of these primordial places and tiny jewels hidden within. These were the tinest fowers that I have ever seen in the orchid world and only the Bog Adders Mouth [Hammarbya paludosa] in Minnesota being smaller. If I were forced to pick only one orchid that I could see, this would at high of the list. Oh the joy! White Adder's Mouth [Malaxis brachypoda]. New York. 6-26-25
