Six different Checkered Rattlesnake Orchids [Goodyera tesselata]. Found in a small area with many more plants. Lebanon County, Pa. 9-9-25

These three pictures show three different and distinct Goodyera species. Concentrating on the inside of the flower and showing the columns [anther caps and pollinia]. Far left Goodyera tesselata. Middle,  Goodyera repens. Right, Goodyera pubescens. Notice difference in the lips of each species, the G. repens has a longer more narrow lip than either G. tesselata or G. pubescens. Also notice the pinkish hue of the G. tesselata's inflorescence [flowers] that is absent from both G. repens and G. pubescens, this is something that I have observed in G. tesselata in both Pennsylvania and New Hampshire.

An exciting find in Lebanon County, Pa. Checkered Rattlesnake Orchid [Goodyera tesselata]. I can find no records for this plant in Lebanon County or even this part of the state of Pennsylvania [central]. 8-21-25
